33 weeks

Man I have slacked!!  I’ve thought a lot about posting, but life has gotten in the way!  We have been very busy and things aren’t slowing down too much with Christmas just around the corner!  Oh well….it’s our normal anymore to be always on the go!

Let’s see…I’ve had another ultrasound!  Little peanut is growing and doing great!  Baby is head down and is weighing about 4 lbs 2oz.  Heartbeat remains strong as it has been during the whole pregnancy.  I’ve also had the wonderful glucose test…..I really dread that thing!  I love being pregnant, but that test is the one thing I can not stand.  I’m more then willing the do all the shots, blood draws, ect needed for an IVF pregnancy without complaining, but I’ll complain all day about drinking the worst sugary drink ever!!!  I did have the fruit punch again this time (also had it with my last surro baby…they only had orange with my kids) and I’ll say it is better then the orange, but still horrible!  In case you are aware, the make you drink so many ounces (maybe 6 or 8) in 15 minutes then you have to wait an hour for your blood to be taken.  Thankfully my doctor’s office is ok with me leaving for that hour so I went to work for a bit then headed back to have my blood taken.  Not sure what it was about this time, but I felt horrible the entire day….I really don’t think the baby liked all the sugar!  My test did come back ok so no diabetes for me!

Baby has been an eggplant (28 weeks), an acorn squash (29 weeks), a zucchini (30 weeks), an asparagus (31 weeks) and a squash (32 weeks).

Baby at 33 weeks :  Baby is as big as a Celery

  • Baby’s keeping eyes open while awake.
  • Baby’s also starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing.
  • The bones are hardening.
  • And baby’s going through (more) major brain development-that’s one smart baby!
  • Baby weighs about 4.2 to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. And may grow up to a full inch this week—amazing.

Bump:  My kids are loving the growing bump!  They love to hug on the baby and give kisses!  Very often I get hugs and kisses at night and so does the belly!

(I took this picture last night after a long day….I was sleepy!!!)

Movement:  100%!!  Funny story…at church one day during communion the kids were getting a little restless.  At first I had them put there hands on the belly to see if they could feel the baby move.  Then I had 5 little hands on my belly (we were sitting with 3 of Milena’s friends)!  Thankfully I’m at the point where you can see movement as well as feel it so I had them all take their hands off and everyone was staring at the belly!  This entertained them for the whole time!  They did get louder then normally because they got so excited when they say movement!  It was super cute!

Weight Gain:  So far I’ve gained about 21 pounds.  Which isn’t too bad!  I normally gain around 35 pounds total with a pregnancy.  I looked back on my last surro pregnancy and I had gained about 24 pounds at this point, so I guess I’m doing a little better.

Cravings:  Nothing specific, just food!  Still prefer hamburgers if I get a choice and ice cream, but nothing like a true craving where I have to have it!

Symptoms:  The cramps have stopped…yippee!  But the heartburn has kicked up a notch!  It’s worst at night.  I now take a Zantac before bed (doctor recommended) in order to sleep.  I was waking up every 2 hours or so with major burning in my chest and back.  I’d sometimes pop a few tums, but they weren’t really helping.  The Zantac is working wondering and I’m able to get more sleep…yippee!! I do still take the tums during the day which helps.  Swelling has also started!  Mostly in my ankles and legs, but I’ve also noticed that my hands and wrists are getting tight as the day goes one.

27 Weeks

Not too much happening this week. I’ve been really tired, but I’m sure staying up to watch the Cubs is a big reason for that!! And in case you did know….the CUBS ARE THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!!!!

Baby at 27 weeks: Baby is as big as Lettuce

  • Baby’s practicing inhaling and exhaling with his or her rapidly developing lungs.
  • It’s official: Baby’s showing brain activity! And the brain will keep on getting more complex.
  • At 13.6 to 14.8 inches and 1.5 to 2.5 pounds, baby’s not just getting bigger, but also getting smarter. At 27 weeks, baby is breathing (it’s amniotic fluid, not air, but it still counts).

Bump:

Cravings: Lately I’ve really wanted hamburgers….Really good ones from various restaurants!  And ice cream!  I think I have some sort of ice cream about every night.  I blame some of this on always being hot…I know, just excuses!

Symptoms: With all my pregnancies I’ve gotten calf cramps and this one is no different.  I’ve started getting these when I’ve been sitting for long periods of time, mostly when I wake up in the morning.  Thankfully I haven’t woken up with one…yet!  Heartburn is still going strong!

22-25 Weeks

We are moving right along!  And quickly seeing how I can’t keep up with posting!!

On a side note….has anyone been watching the Cubs!!!  There is good baseball being played in October!  I was so excited to see the bats come alive Wednesday night (Cubs won 10-2)!!  And for them to continue to hit last night!! For those that aren’t watching, the Cubs are playing to Dodgers in the National League Championship.  Series is currently at 3-2 with the Cubs leading…and they are headed back to Wrigley for the rest of the series!  Here’s hoping we’ll be seeing the Indians in the World Series next week!

So pregnancy….everything is going great!!  I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and was told I’m right on track.  Baby L is moving more and more!  Funny thing is every time I try to have my kids feel Baby L kick it stops!  They wait for awhile then give up….and of coursing sometimes the kicking starts when they move their hand away!  I’m feeling great for the most part.  I do get tired earlier at times, but we are on the move alot so I’m sure that has something to do with it!  I am starting to not be able to do as much, things that are becoming more difficult  including loading the dishwasher, bending over, helping Kaden dress for hockey, sleeping!!!  Some nights I have no problem sleeping and never wake up, but other nights I can’t get comfy and feel like I’m up every hour!  I’m using my prego pillow now which does help (it’s like a body pillow but shaped like a big C…great for supporting the back!)  Just one of the joys of the 3rd trimester….so hard to believe we are that far along already!

Baby at 25 weeks:  Baby is as big as a cauliflower!!

  • Baby’s enjoying his or her new sense of equilibrium-and now knows which way is up and which is down.
  • Baby’s growing more fat and more hair too!
  • During month six, the average fetus measures about 13.6 inches to 14.8 inches and weighs about 1.5 to 2.5 pounds.

Bump:

Clothes:  I’m pretty much full in maternity clothes now.  I’ve also discovered Lularoe…which is amazing and so comfy!  They aren’t maternity, but work with the belly and don’t hurt like some full belly pants!  And I’ll be able to wear them after the baby is born…yippee!!  Here’s one shirt I have from them:

Cravings: Nothing specific…I like ice cream, but I think that’s just because I’m hot!  Nothing turns me off either which is good!  Just give me food and I’m happy…ha!

Symptoms:  Heartburn is full force.  I did ask my doctor about the back heartburn I’ve had….she said it could be that, but to pay attention to it because that pain can also be caused by gallbladder issues…yikes!  I told her that it is very infrequent and Tums seems to help so she isn’t too concerns right now.  My feet are swelling some and I’ve had some belly pains, mostly from it getting bigger, like stretching pains.  Other in that all is good!

JFK

Kaden had his first book report a few weeks ago.  He was assigned a person and had to read a book, make up questions, and write an introduction.  He was pretty excited to get JFK!  In 2nd grade he did a president report (he did have a different president) so he thought it was pretty neat to get someone he somewhat already knew some things.  The report was more of a presentation that he had to memorize.  He had to read the book, then we had to come up with questions that his classmates would ask him during his presentation.  He did great with thinking of good questions that were more then just yes or no answers.  His teacher did give a guide which helped him focus!  He also had to have an introduction that he gave before his classmates asked the questions.  Here’s part of the presentation, his last practice before school!  (note: my phone didn’t have enough memory for the whole thing).  He got bonus points for dressing up!

Picture from his teacher:

He ended up getting 41/40 on the report!!

VIP Day 2016

Every year our school has a VIP day.  The kids love this day!  It’s always a half day and the kids get to invite a grandparent or VIP to spend the morning with them and see what their school is like.  This year some of our VIP’s were traveling so I got to go along with my dad.  It’s a crazy day following the kids all around the school to do a variety of activities in the classrooms, but lots of fun!

Extracting DNA from strawberries!  They had to go to Mr Glover’s room first to do this!

Playing addition connect four in Ms. Rock’s room (Milena’s room):

STEM marshmellow towers in Ms. Weaver’s room (Kaden’s room)…they started really good, but our tower kept falling!

Christian pumkins in Ms. Winter’s room!

We also played bible bingo and made creations with playdoh!

Kaden’s 9 years old!!

Kaden turned 9 last week….I’m really not sure how that is possible!!  Seems like I was just dropping him off for his first day of Pre-K and that was 5 years ago!  Every one says time goes fast and it’s really hard to believe until you have kids (we were just telling IP’s this at the last appointment!).

Kaden is becoming such an awesome person.  He is loving, caring, head-strong, athletic, hilarious, smart, frustrating, compassionate, and witty!  He’s coming an amazing little man of God also…he’ll read his bible at night before bed and can quote many bible verses.  TLS plays a huge part in instilling these values in him and I love seeing him grow in his faith!

It’s our tradition for the birthday boy/girl to pick where we have dinner on their birthday.  This year Milena was sick so we had to postpone the celebration 1 day.  Which actually benefited Kaden because he got to pick where we ordered dinner from the night of his birthday AND got to pick where to eat out the next day!  We did do gifts….what you don’t see is the basketball court/hockey area in the back yard he also got (we had a concrete slap put in to give me piece of mind for when he’s playing outside!  I hated him being out front w/o an adult…but we told him it was also part of his bday gift!)

He also got clothes…guess I didn’t get a picture of that!  He loves the Clue game and wants to play it almost every night!

Dinner at BWW…his pick because he likes the tablet to play games (only got to play after dinner!)

Kaden at 6 months….one of my favorite pictures of him!!!

21 Weeks

I’m getting this one in just before I become 22 weeks…ha!

Things are moving right along.  We had the 20 week ultrasound last week.  IM and IF were both able to make it which I loved!  My husband also went, more to talk with the IP’s and I think he wanted to see the ultrasound since he’s taking a class about this now!  We did find out the sex AND baby has a name!!  Baby L is doing great…growing good and measuring right on!  IP’s got some good pictures to take home…Baby L was very cooperative and moving around!  Doctor has no concerns right now and says we are right on track!

I’m feeling great!  Appetite has increased and is showing with the belly getting bigger!  Baby L is moving more and more.  Heartburn has started so I’m packing the tums everywhere I go!  I was getting a sharp pain in the middle of my back…very much like heartburn but in my back and the pain was more intesne.  This kept me up one night as I couldn’t get it to go away.  Finally I got an ice pack and slept on that which worked for the night.  But it was back the next day.  This was happening before the heartburn started so I didn’t think to take tums until a mom of one of my daughter’s friends asked if they worked.  It was a complete “duh” moment when she mentioned that!  So I went on my lunch hour that day and got some tums!  They worked and the back pain hasn’t been back!  I can deal with heartburn, but the back pain was bad!  Otherwise no complaints here…just loving how things are moving along.  Here’s a recent belly pic (don’t mind the outfit…I had taken my skirt off for comfy pants!)

Baby at 21 weeks:  Baby’s as big as an Endive:

  • As baby’s digestive system preps for the outside world, he or she’s manufacturing meconium-the tarry black substance you’ll find in the first dirty diaper!
  • If it’s a girl, she’s already got a lifetime’s supply of eggs in her womb-about six million of them.
  • Having a boy? His testes are still located in his abdomen but will drop in the coming weeks once the scrotum finishes developing.

So I wasn’t sure what an endive was…here’s what I found:

WHAT IS ENDIVE?

Endive is a member of the chicory family, which includes radicchio, escarole, frisee and curly endive. It has a crisp texture and a sweet, nutty flavor with a pleasantly mild bitterness — great served raw or cooked.

19 and 20 Weeks

Apparently I’m much better at posting two weeks at time instead of one!  Time is just going to fast that it surprises me when I realize I’ve missed another week!

So what’s been up with the baby?  We have movement!!!  Not a lot and mostly moving over kicking, but he/she is reminding me that they are in there!  I  notice it more at night, but have started feeling more through out the day.  I’ve also been feeling really good lately!  The first trimester wonderfulness (or not!) is gone and my appetite is picking up.  I feel like I’m hungry every 2 or 3 hours I’m awake!  Belly is coming…here’s a recent picture:

We have the 20 week ultrasound next week!  I’m super excited to see IM again and maybe event IF!  They will be finding out the gender (I get asked that all that time!)…not sure if I’ll be sharing that or not.  We’ll see!!

Baby at 19 Weeks:  Baby is as big as a Mango

  • Developing a protective coating over the skin, called vernix caseosa. It’s greasy and white and you may see some of it at birth.
  • Working on baby’s five senses. Nerve cells for sense of taste, hearing, sight and smell are developing in baby’s brain.
  • At about 6.0 inches long and weighing in at about 8.5 ounces, baby’s getting there!

Baby at 20 Weeks:  Baby is as big as a Banana

  • Baby’s got working taste buds.
  • Now, baby’s gulping down several ounces of amniotic fluid each day-that’s significantly more than before.
  • Baby weighs about 10.2 ounces and measures about 6.5 inches.

As for the rest of my life…my new job is going good!  I’ve told my boss about the pregnancy, but no one else.  I’m sure they are all wondering and I’ve gotten some belly looks!  Since this isn’t my baby it’s different sharing the news.  I learned from my first journey that surrogacy is different to some and not everyone handles things that are different well.  I guess I’d prefer not to talk about it then get the negative comments.  I’m by no means saying that surrogacy shouldn’t be talked about it….I’m more then happy to discuss it with anyone to wants to learn more!  However, I’ve also learned that not everyone wants to learn more, they just want to keep their views and push them on others.  I honestly have no idea how my co-worker will react and when asked I’ll be completely honest with them….I’m just choosing to let them ask!  Otherwise, our lives remain busy with homework, gymnastics, hockey (starting soon), Girl/Cub Scouts, and Matt’s classes.  I’ve also recently been voted to the school board, which I’m super excited about!  But it is one more thing to fit into an already busy schedule!  And since our school is a Lutheran school this is also a position on the Board of Lay Ministry with the church….again one more monthly meeting to fit in!  Oh well…I’m not sure we would know what to do if we didn’t have all this going on!

Kaden also reminded me this morning that he turns 9 in one week!!!  Not sure how that is possible!!

17 and 18 weeks

So much has changed in these last 2 weeks…mostly in my life.  I changed jobs which I’m super excited about!  My previous job had changed in ways that I wasn’t happy about or agreed with so I’m very happy for this new opportunity.

Baby-wise all is good!  He/She is getting bigger…or at least it seems that way since my belly is getting bigger!  I’m still in my regular clothes for the most part, but have started wearing some maternity stuff also.  No kicks yet, but I there are many nights where I have pressure under my right ribs like something is there.  These seems to be the spot where my kids and my other surro baby liked to hang out so I’m sure this baby is just getting comfy!

How’s the baby:

17 weeks….. Baby’s the size of a pomegranate

  • Baby’s rubbery cartilage is now turning to bone.
  • And baby’s growing some meat on those bones-putting on some fat.
  • Baby’s growing a stronger, thicker umbilical cord too.

18 weeks….Baby’s the size of an artichoke

  • Can you believe baby’s yawning, hiccuping, sucking and swallowing?
  • And baby’s twisting, rolling, punching and kicking too-and is big enough that you might be able to feel him or her doing it!

16 Weeks

Not much has changed in the last week!  My schedule has been crazy busy so this is somewhat late (I’ll actually be 17 weeks in 2 days!).

I had a doctor appointment today…just a normal weight check for me and heartbeat check for baby.  The best part was that the IM was able to come to it!  This was the first appointment that she made and first time she was able to hear the heartbeat in person!  (I had previously sent her a recording of the ultrasound and heartbeat back when we could first hear it)  I loved that she could make it down.  Unfortunately, I had to get right back to work, but it was still nice to have her there!  Baby continues to have a strong heartbeat.

Next month is the big 20 week ultrasound where we’ll find out the gender (unless IP’s decide differently)!  I’m super excited that both IM and IF may be at the one!  IM will be for sure so it’ll be great to see her again!  I love that I’m close to the IP’s this journey so they can be apart of these appointments when they are able.  I’m sure it helps give them some piece of mind also.

Clothes are getting tighter, atleast my pants away!  I know the belly is coming!  So far I haven’t really felt movement…I’ve had some flutters that I thought might be baby, but who knows!  It’s still early so I’m not too worried about it.  I love feeling the movement so figure I’m just ready for that to begin!

Baby Info:

  • Baby’s listening to your voice, thanks to tiny bones forming in his or her ears.
  • Baby’s growing hair, lashes and eyebrows.
  • And baby’s forming taste buds.
